Complete solar systems manufacturer Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited will supply photovoltaic (PV) modules for a 10-megawatt (MW) grid-connected solar power plant in China’s Gansu province, the company reported.

Yingli Green Energy, a leading Chinese solar company, was chosen for a project of the SDIC Huajing Power Holding Co., Ltd, a leading state-owned electricity supplier in China. The 10-MW solar plant will be built in the city of Dunhuang.

SDIC Huajing is an electricity industry subsidiary of the State Development and Investment Corp. (SDIC), China’s largest state-owned investment holding company.

“We are confident that western regions such as Dunhuang will be big markets for solar power as they receive abundant natural sunlight and local governments are very open to investments by solar companies," SDIC Huajing general manager Weidong Wang said.

The 10-MW solar project is approved under Gansu’s the Development and Reform Commission.

Liansheng Miao, chairman and CEO of Yingli Green Energy, said it is partnering with firms like SDIC Huajing, which has an established network of existing traditional power projects and manpower in places like Gansu.

"As part of our strategy to build a greater presence in China's domestic solar market, we are seeking to establish strategic relationships with leading grid companies, such as SDIC Huajing, whose wealth of experience in China's power supply market gives them unique insights into the domestic solar market," Miao said.

SDIC Huajing expects to source 3% of its power generation from non-hydro-based renewables by 2010, rising to 8% by 2020.

Aside from energy, SDIC also has interests in ports and shipping, chemical fertilizers, among other industries, as well as in the service industry.
