The Netherlands has sought the aid of Renault-Nissan in the introduction of zero-emission vehicles in the country.

The Netherlands has asked for the help of Renault-Nissan in introducing electric vehicles in the country. The request, announced last Friday (June 3) would make Renault-Nissan the front-runner in electric mobility in the Netherlands and would secure the automobile company’s role as electric car developer in the Dutch transportation industry.

“I appreciate the interest of the Renault-Nissan Alliance in the Netherlands as a potential test market for the sale of electric vehicles,” said minister of transport, public works and water management, Camiel Eurlings.

In line with its plan to launch its first electric vehicle by 2010 and to mass-market a full range of zero-emission vehicles by 2012, Renault-Nissan has signed almost 30 agreements with international partners. In the US, the company has begun zero-emission campaigns in the cities of Raleigh, Oak Ridge, Phoenix, Seattle, and San Diego. It has also begun green transportation initiatives in China and Ireland.

Renault-Nissan’s goals of manufacturing and mass-marketing the said vehicles come in line with its tenth anniversary this year. The alliance, established in 1999, is the first French-Japanese industrial and commercial partnership. It is the third largest global automaker based on 2008 sales with 9% global market share by volume.
