German solar module manufacturer aleo solar AG has won a follow-up order to expand a 530-kilowatt (kW) greenfield photovoltaic power plant in Germany. The turnkey project will increase the solar farm’s generating capacity to 1,040-kW.

An agricultural and energy farmer in Südergellersen, Carsten Beecken is the owner and operator of the solar farm, which is located in the district of Lüneburg, Lower Saxony. Through the solar power plant, he wanted to produce enough renewable energy to power the region.

The construction of the turnkey expansion project is scheduled to commence in the fall, with the new solar modules to be connected to the transmission grid by the end of 2009. ad fontes Lüneburg, the specialist company that constructed the first phase of the solar farm, will be in charge of the installation of the additional solar modules. The photovoltaic power plant will utilize 5,850 S_16 aleo solar modules that will generate energy to not only provide clean electricity but to also save about 570 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Beecken mentioned that the solar power plant can provide local economic benefits. He said, “Shortly after the first part of the solar farm went into operation, it was clear that the cost-benefit ratio was very good and our investment would pay off. Furthermore, our solar farm was welcomed in the region and has actually become an attraction.”

Norbert Schlesiger, Director of Sales in aleo solar, added, “The high output of our solar modules means that greenfield solar farms can be profitable even in northern Germany.”

Based in Oldenburg, Germany, aleo solar AG is one of the largest manufacturers of solar modules in Europe that uses silicon cells. Its manufacturing facilities in Germany, Spain, and China have an annual capacity of 250 megawatts.
