GE Energy opened its new Technology Center on June 23 at its European headquarters in Belfort, France that will house advanced technology developments to address environmental and energy challenges.

The 12,000 square-meter center was built with a €25-million investment from GE Energy and SEMPAT (Société patrimoniale du Territoire de Belfort) within the GE Energy’s complex in Belfort. GE’s Belfort complex has served as its European headquarters for 10 years, and also houses the international center of excellence for the manufacturing of medium-sized gas turbines. The new Technology Center will house up to 400 engineers from 15 different countries to develop new energy and environmental technologies.

“We are opening our new Technology Center at a time when most of the world is discussing energy and environmental challenges such as growing demand, the effects of climate change and the need to reduce energy production costs,” said GE Energy’s president for Western Europe and Northern Africa Ricardo Cordoba. “The future lies in the development of the most advanced, most effective and cleaner technologies and that will be part of the mission of our new center.”

GE Energy is the leading exporter in the Belfort region and currently employs 2,000 people.
