Roth & Rau AG, a developer of technologies and equipment for the photovoltaics industry, expanded the personal and physical capacities of its research & development division through the opening of its new Technology Center at the company’s headquarters in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany.

The €11-million center offers 1,500 square meters of laboratory surface and 50 offices and workplaces, allowing sufficient space for customer applications and for training sessions for customers on how to use Roth & Rau’s equipment. The new technology center will also house the central research & development center of the company that develops products and equipment used in the production of more efficient solar cells.

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft will invest around €3 million in the center, equipping it with systems technology for research projects to be performed jointly by Roth & Rau and Fraunhofer institutes in Saxony.

During the ceremony of the launch, Roth & Rau held a workshop on the “New Products and Technologies for the Photovoltaics Industry.” Around 120 guests from the PV industry, representatives of research institutes, employees of Roth & Rau’s research & development division, and the company’s customers attended the workshop.

Roth & Rau AG supplies technologies, production equipment, components, and process systems that are based on plasma and ion beam technology for the photovoltaics industry and other sectors. The company is headquartered in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany.
