The company which has reportedly developed a device that captures energy from moving vehicles to generate electricity said it has filed nine new patent applications to protect its technology.
The patent, according to the Washington, DC-based company New Energy Technologies, Inc., is aimed at protecting novel features of its MotionPower™ technology for which it recently created a prototype.
MotionPower™, according to its developer, is a device designed to generate electricity by making use of the kinetic energy of moving vehicles. The company said the modular system can be mounted directly on existing roadways with little or no modification to the roadway itself. No further details were made on the prototype.
The company said its engineers expect MotionPower™ to replace conventional electrical supplies for powering roadway signs and street lights, as well as home and business devices.
“[O]ur numerous patent filings help ensure that the intellectual property related to New Energy’s novel MotionPower™ technology is afforded the protections we need in order to confidently advance our next-generation prototypes, and move aggressively towards commercial implementation,” New Energy Technologies president and CEO Meetesh V. Patel said.
The application was made with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
In the company’s website, MotionPower™ is depicted as a series of metal strips slanted forward and which get pressed flat on the ground upon contact with the vehicles’ tires.
