According to the Express News Service, the fuel system is called the Hydrogen Ethanol Combustion (HEC), and is developed by four students from the college.
The students, Chintu Salam, Sonu John, N.S. Gopikrishnan, R.R. Remeshshanker, all belonged to the eighth semester of a BTech Mechanical course.
The project took them nearly two month’s time to develop and aims to address the problems of the depletion of the global gasoline reserve.
The fuel of the HEC is based on hydrogen and ethanol. It has a high octane rating and can work at various air-fuel proportions without knocking. The system uses a dual carburator design and a vehicle using the system can run either on gasoline or ethanol without change in efficiency. The design also includes on-board production of hydrogen.
