Chemrec among top 24 high-growth green companies
Chemrec is now ready to fully commercialize its proprietary gasification process technology. Image courtesy of Chemrec ABSwedish biomass-to-energy company Chemrec was recently named to the top 24 of most innovative and promising green technology companies by European Tech Tour.
Chemrec’s proprietary gasification process turns the pulp and paper by-product black liquor char into biofuel. The process has a total of 26 patents, and the company manufactures five products for the gasification process. Its development plant in Sweden recently achieved 10,000 accumulated operating hours. The syngas created in the development plant will be used as motor fuel. Chemrec was one of just 24 firms invited to present its technology to a delegation of green technology investors and professions in Geneva, Switzerland. Chemrec was chosen because of attributes like maturity of technology, attractive niche focus, flexible output of bio-products, and its experienced management team.
Chemrec is now ready to fully commercialize its technology. A full-scale commercial gasifier can process 500 metric tons of black liquor solids a day into second-generation biofuel. Independent evaluation has shown the biofuel produced by the gasifier to achieve a high level of greenhouse gas emission reduction, high energy efficiency, and viable commercial biofuel production.
"Chemrec has successfully proven its gasification technology with long run-time at our development plant and is now ready for global expansion," said Chemrec CEO Rick LeBlanc. "While other firms are trying to complete pilot testing, we are developing full-scale facilities."
