Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. has opened its first state-of-the-art photovoltaic (PV) module testing laboratory in China. It will be awarded by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Witness Testing Data Program Certificate.

The PV module testing facility is located at Suntech’s headquarters in Wuxi. Boasting of 1,400 square meters of indoor testing space and 7,000 square meters of outdoor testing space, the facility is said to be the largest in China. The facility also utilizes state-of-the-art test equipment, including pulse and continuous solar simulators, walk-in climate chambers, mechanical load, and hail testers, electroluminescence testers, and high-precision infrared cameras.

Through UL’s Witness Testing Data Program, the testing of PV modules may be conducted under the supervision of UL experts. Suntech is the first solar company in China to be awarded with the Witness Testing Data Program certificate. The awarding of UL’s certification will enable Suntech to bring its solar products to the market faster.

Dr Zhengrong Shi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Suntech, said, “This new state-of-the-art PV module testing laboratory reflects Suntech's goal of producing the highest quality and most reliable solar panels in the industry. UL’s witness testing program will enable us to accelerate the testing and qualification of Suntech PV modules so that we can bring the latest solar technology to our customers as fast as possible.”

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. is the world’s leading manufacturer of crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules. The company is based in Jiangsu Province, China, with regional offices in Europe, the United States, and Asia.
