The acquisition of K-Star Solar is hoped to strengthen Mercury Solar Systems’ presence in the northeast United States. The financial terms were not disclosed.
"With K-Star we have an instant footprint in this market,” Mercury Solar Systems President Jared Haines said, adding that federal and state incentives for solar systems provide enticements to go solar.
The federal and state incentives for solar systems have also never been better, but customers need a company with local knowledge to help them leverage the benefits of solar," Haines said.
As a solar integrator, Mercury Solar Systems designs and installs solar electric and solar thermal energy systems for commercial and residential customers. It has been installing systems in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Mercury Solar Systems will be using solar products made by SunPower for its Long Island installations.
In related developments, in May, solar industry group Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) reported that Long Island Power Authority, a New York utility, is among the top ten most active utilities in terms of its solar energy installations in 2008, installing 2.5 megawatts (MW).
