“This product was specifically developed for the smart meter market and is suitable for any outdoor label application requiring both a color label and the capability of printing variable information, ” said owner of PaladinID LLC Dana Ritchie.
The need for the product came specifically from a manufacturing customer two years ago. The customer was using a Markem LP-8400 to produce color labels for outdoor appliances. That particular printer and its related parts, labels, and ribbons were discontinued. The customer needed a durable color, variable print label capable of withstanding the sun and the elements for 10 to 15 years without fading. Up until now, flexographic inks had a maximum outdoor lifespan of three years.
PaladinID hired a chemist to develop a new ink formulation. The company’s testing has indicated that the new ink has an outdoor lifespan of more than 15 years.
The new printing and barcode solution can also be used for other outdoor applications such as air and gas cylinders, electric panels and transformers, aboveground storage tanks, and chemical storage drums.
PaladinID, LLC has been providing barcode system solutions for more than 10 years. The company works with industries such as food, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, industrial manufacturing, automotive, electronics, chemicals, and others. PaladinID was formerly known as Northeast Barcode Solutions. It is headquartered in Laconia, New Hampshire.
